Why You Don’t Need Another Workout Plan (And What You Actually Need Instead).

If you’re reading this blog, I’m willing to bet it’s not the first time you have been trying to find another workout plan in hopes that it will finally be the one you stick to. You find that new plan, the new routine, and you feel motivated for a little while, then life happens, and before you know it, you’re not working out anymore. The same old cycle repeats, you think to yourself: “ I just need to find a better plan”, or “ I need to be more disciplined, “or you stop looking altogether, and you abandon movement entirely. Sound familiar? You’re not alone. In today’s world, we are bombarded with information 24/7. It’s no wonder we are left confused, always chasing the newest workouts or trying to follow random workouts we see on social media.

Why Traditional Fitness Advice Keeps You Stuck

Most fitness programs are built on extremes and tend to follow the all-or-nothing approach. You are expected to push hard 5-6 days a week, and for a short period of time, that feels great, and maybe even motivating, but for most of us, that’s just not sustainable. That level of consistency doesn’t happen overnight. If that is a goal of yours, you can absolutely build up to that. But for many women, that’s something that takes time. It requires gradually increasing frequency, building strength, endurance, and recovery capacity along the way. These extreme approaches don’t take into account:

  • Your energy levels

  • Your hormones

  • Your cycle

  • Your emotions

  • Your schedule

  • Your stress

  • Your actual life

Research from organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine supports this, recommending that people gradually increase their exercise routines to reduce injury risk and improve long-term adherence. When you jump straight into an all-or-nothing routine, it’s very difficult for many women to maintain, and it can also work against you in the long run. You may find it hard to keep up, and that can make you feel like you are the problem. You were never the problem; the problem was the approach, trying to make something work for you that didn’t fit you, and didn’t take into account life. You were not lazy, inconsistent, or unmotivated, or any of the negative things that we tend to tell ourselves.

So what should you do instead?

You need to find movement that supports you and works with your life, not against it. Finding movement that supports you and al the ebbs and flows of life is one of the keys to remaining consistent long-term. Long-term results don’t come from chasing perfection, it comes from having a routine you can return to over and over again, one that is flexible. Your exercise should be something that allows you to build consistency without relying on motivation, which will always be fleeting. Let’s be real, you won’t always feel like moving, you won’t always feel like your “best self”, and you won’t always have an hour to dedicate to movement every single day. If you have a method that takes all of this into account, you will find success.

This Is What The Aligned Body Is Built On

I didn’t create this approach because I had it all figured out. I created it because I know what it feels like to feel disconnected from your body, to start over again, and to have that toxic fitness culture mindset. I used to be that girl who thought I just needed to “push harder”. On the flipside, I know what changes can happen when you stop chasing those extremes and start actually listening to your body and what it needs. Your body will always tell you; you just have to really listen to it. When you stop chasing perfection, you set yourself up to build something supportive and sustainable, forever. You don’t need to become someone else, you need to come back to yourself. Allow yourself to begin in imperfection and know that is enough.

If You’re Ready for Something Different…

If you’re tired of starting over and you’re ready to feel stronger, more grounded, and more like yourself again, know that there is a different way to approach this, and you can do it. There is a supportive, sustainable way to build an intentional movement routine that is designed to always meet you where you are, while gently guiding you forward towards your goals. If this resonated, I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
